“The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts.” - Bertrand Russell
Thought your first article on this was very good, ticked all the boxes. This one? Not so much. Absolutely sensible for the most part but you do suggest, surely unintentionally, that some of us older people are longing for the good old days, which you suggest had a lot wrong with them. They did. However, the world we live in today is a shambles. Often deeply unpleasant, dogmatic and tied to ideology underpinned by poor science, greed and elitism. An example? Coal and oil are clearly problematic for you, I have more problems with the alternatives that require unscrupulous exploitation of rare resources including slave labour.
You started off trying to make us think of growing old gracefully, I get that. I want to do the same. I suggest that you might do better to stop pressing my buttons. Speaking for myself only, obviously. Others will have their own thoughts!
