I went to Anfield last season with my team, Union Saint-Gilloise - and, as in every USG game, there was singing from (before the) start to (well after the) finish. All orchestrated by the Capo, but a constant, noisy backing for the team. I realise it was not a big game for Liverpool, but YNWA apart, it was a very flat atmosphere.

Sadly, I think it's becoming a real difference between the atmosphere at English grounds and those in Germany, Belgium, France and elsewhere - high ticket prices, daytrippers and club-orchestrated 'atmosphere creation' through loud music are all elements of it...

Grumpy old man mode off now... ;-)

Hi Clive,

I agree with your general point, but I do think you missed the first 10 mins at Anfield where the PSG players definitely looked a bit rattled. Balls were kicked out of play more than once, Liverpool chances came and went.

The goal came out of nowhere and obviously gave them a huge shot of confidence and Liverpool a huge kick in the teeth, but I think Liverpool and Anfield were a Mendes clearance off the line or a Salah strike going inside the post rather than outside away from PSG really looking disheveled like so many at Anfield before them.

Small margins in this game.
